17th Annual First Time Authors' Appreciation Programme, NALIS, Trinidad.
Back in April I was invited to attend The National Library & Information System Authority (NALIS), Annual First Time Author's Appreciation Programme.
It proved to be an unexpected and overwhelming experience, since it would mean my second visit to Trinidad, since my first vist back in December 2025 - my first in some 46 years.
The programme commenced with the national anthem, something I'd not sung since June 1979, when I was at school at St Stephen's College, Princes Town, but the words returned with ease.
This national athem was followed by Ms Melisa Schuller delivering the opening prayer..
Welcoming and Opening Remarks were delivered by Ms Beverly Ann Williams, Deputy Executive Director and entertainment was delivered by the talented violinist Mr Johann Rodney.
We enjoyed an informed talk by Mr Regan Asgarali, SC Controller, Trinidad & Tobago Intellectual Property Office.
It was he who kindly presented me with my plague and remarked that I had come all the way from London to participate.
Following a second performed by Mr Rodney, the Plaque Distribution ceremony took place.
It was wonderful to see an array of ages who were recipients of a similar plaque and the range of subject matter published.
Closing remarks were presented by Ms Jasmin Simmons, Director Heritage Library Division and then we were summoned on stage for a group photograph, pictures of which I'll share in the gallery.
This is my personal 'thank you' to NALIS and all who put together a warm, welcoming experience for first time authors.
